Safer Internet Day-2025
Safer Internet Day is celebrated worldwide on the second Tuesday of February to raise awareness about cyber security. Pursuant to this, a workshop was organized by National Information Science Center (NIC) today, Tuesday 11th February 2025 at the Collector Office, Pune. Additional Collector Shri. Suhas Mapari, Deputy Collectors of various branches, Tehsildars and staff were present. District Informatics Officer, Mrs. Ashwini Karmarkar guided on behalf of NIC.
In today’s digital age, with the increasing use of online transactions, social media, e-mail and cloud services, the threat of cyber crimes has also increased. Therefore, it is necessary for everyone to be aware of internet security and take measures accordingly. Due to the advancement of technology, cyber criminals are looking for different ways. There has been an increase in incidents like phishing, data theft, banking fraud, social media account hacking, cyber bullying, and sextortion.
The Government of India and the Ministry of Information Technology have taken various measures for cyber security. Citizens are helped through initiatives like Cyber crime reporting portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in), CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) and Stay Safe Online (www.staysafeonline.in). Cyber crime has become a tool to abuse people financially and psychologically by misusing modern technology. So everyone should take proper precautions for safe internet usage. Along with the government and law enforcement systems, the common citizens to be vigilant and prevent these crimes, Mrs. Karmarkar appealed.
