Overview

As per the directions of the Election Commission of India, a Special In-depth Voter Verification (SIR) campaign will be implemented in Maharashtra and the records of about 91 lakh 16 thousand 325 voters will be verified door-to-door. This campaign has been undertaken to make the voter list more accurate, transparent and up-to-date, informed District Collector and District Election Officer Jitendra Dudi.

Under this campaign, between June 30 and July 29, 2026, Polling Station Level Officers (BLOs) will personally visit the homes of voters to distribute census forms and collect the filled forms. They will visit the houses and verify the voters’ information through pre-printed forms. Changes in name, address, photo or other details can be recorded. Also, Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate (ASDD) records will be checked. It was also clarified that if mapping with old voter lists from 2002 to 2004 is available, no additional documents will be required.

The campaign schedule has also been announced and the printing of census forms and training of BLOs will be done from June 20 to 29. From June 30 to July 29, 2026, BLOs will personally visit the homes of voters, distribute census forms and collect the filled forms. The draft voter list will be published on August 5, 2026, while claims and objections can be filed between August 5 and September 4. Dispose of claims and objections by October 3, 2026. He informed that the final voter list will be published on October 7, 2026.

Around 8,417 BLOs and 4,557 polling station level representatives (BLAs) of various political parties in the district will participate in this process. The Election Commission will implement this process in a completely fair and transparent manner and no eligible voter’s name will be excluded.

Special Intensive Revision (SIR)

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is a process undertaken to eliminate errors from the electoral rolls and prepare an accurate and error-free voter list. It ensures that every eligible citizen is correctly enrolled in the electoral roll.

    • Verification of all existing voters is carried out.
    • Booth Level Officers (BLOs) visit households to verify voter details.
    • Electoral rolls prepared during 2002–2004 are considered as the reference records.
    • Eligible voters will be enrolled as per the qualifying date: 01 October 2026.
    • New voters can register by submitting Form 6 along with the prescribed declaration.
    • The process helps ensure transparent and fair elections.

Why is Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Necessary?

    • Maintaining Accuracy: To ensure the electoral roll remains accurate and updated.
    • Verification after 24 Years: Since no Special Intensive Revision has been conducted after 2002, fresh verification is essential.
    • Migration Impact: Rapid urbanization and employment have resulted in large-scale migration.
    • Removal of Ineligible Entries: Names of deceased, duplicate, or otherwise ineligible voters need to be removed.

Objectives of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)

    • Prepare an accurate and updated electoral roll.
    • Ensure registration of every eligible citizen as a voter.
    • Ensure that every eligible voter’s name remains included in the electoral roll.

BLO Home Visit – What Should You Do?

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit your residence between 30 June and 29 July 2026. Please follow these four simple steps.

  • Verify Your Voter Details
  • Keep Your Recent Photograph Ready
  • Keep Required Documents Ready
      • Keep any one of the following documents ready:
        Birth Certificate, Passport, Class 10 (Matriculation) Certificate, Residence Certificate, Caste Certificate, Government Identity Card, Family Register, Government Land/House Allotment Certificate, Forest Rights Certificate, Bank/Post Office Identity Document, Aadhaar Card, or National Register of Citizens (NRC) Proof.
  • Fill and Submit the Enumeration Form to the BLO
      • The BLO will provide the pre-filled Enumeration Form in two copies.
      • Complete the form and sign it.
      • Submit one copy to the BLO.
      • Keep the second copy safely after obtaining an acknowledgement.
